Deacon Hans grew up in Vietnam and came to the United State at age 17 in the late 1990s. He has a bachelor’s in computer science technology and a Bachelor of Theology and is currently employed with the U.S. Courts as a Systems Manager.
In 2017, he wanted to give something back to the Lord because of all the graces poured upon him and his family. So, he came to the Rectory and talked with Fr. Thanh Nguyen about the diaconate program who then suggested that he talk with Fr. John Metzinger. Fr. Metzinger told him that the deadline for the application closed 3 months ago and that if he still wanted to apply for the diaconate program, he would have to wait four years later for the next class.
Deacon Hans did not want to wait for the next class and asked Fr. John to check and see if they could make an exception. Fr. John said that he would look into it but wasn't sure if there was anything that he could do because it was way over the deadline. Deacon Hans spent many hours praying for this opportunity and told God that if He wanted him to be His servant for His people, then make this happen; otherwise, maybe this was not his call. Within a week, Deacon Hans received a phone call from the Oklahoma City Archdiocese to schedule an interview.
Deacon Hans got accepted and started diaconate formation classes in August 2017 and continued his discernment for four years. He was ordained by Archbishop Paul S. Coakley to be a permanent deacon on November 5, 2021, and received his assignment to serve the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. He is very grateful and joyful to be a permanent deacon at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and to serve and help in any way possible.
